Take your belongings with you
When your car needs to be towed, a little preparation goes a long way. Start by removing personal belongings — wallet, phone charger, paperwork, anything you would miss. Items left loose inside can shift in transit, and a vehicle sitting at a shop or in storage is not the place for valuables.
Secure anything loose on the outside
Fold the mirrors if they fold. Deal with a bed cover, a loose bumper cover, a trim piece hanging after a collision, or an antenna that unscrews. Anything flapping at highway speed is something that can be lost or can damage the vehicle behind it.
Photograph the condition first
If you can, take a few photos of the car before it goes up on the deck — all four corners and any existing damage. It costs thirty seconds and it means nobody has to rely on memory later. We provide an itemized receipt, and your photos alongside it make a clean record.
Tell the driver what is actually wrong
Say if it will not roll, will not steer, will not come out of park, has no key, is all-wheel drive, is electric, or is lowered. Every one of those changes how the vehicle should be loaded. Getting it right on the phone means the correct truck shows up the first time instead of a second wait.
Know where it is going
Have the destination ready — the shop name and address, or the dealer, or your own driveway. It is your vehicle and it is your call, and having the answer ready is the difference between a fifteen-minute stop and a forty-minute one.
